Alexander Lee, a Kentwood High School and Radford University (Va.) graduate, signed with the Baltimore Orioles and is playing in the organization’s rookie division in Sarasota, Fla.
“It’s a little more laid back than it was in college,” Lee said. “They let us do our own thing and expect us to be able to come and play when they need us to.”
His day-to-day routine involves a 7 a.m. wakeup call, a full day of practice, then games.
Lee hopes to move up to play for the Orioles one day, but said that he sees it being a long climb through the minors.
“I can just play, and if it catches someone’s eye, it’s great,” he said.
A first baseman, Lee played 54 games with the Radford Highlanders in 2013, and ended his season with a .278 batting average and a .983 fielding percentage. He had 25 RBIs and two home runs.
