Seattle’s Taran Kozun has been chosen the Vaughn Canadian Hockey League Goaltender of the Week for the second time this season, the league announced today.
Kozun posted back-to-back shutouts in two starts with a perfect goals-against-average of 0.00 and save percentage of 1.000 for the week ending Feb. 9.
Kozun stopped all 64 shots he faced in a pair of starts against the Spokane Chiefs backstopping the Thunderbirds to a pair of victories and holding fourth place in the WHL’s Western Conference. Last Wednesday night he made 29 saves and earned second-star honors in a 4-0 win over the Chiefs in Spokane, then made 35 saves on Friday night in Seattle earning first-star honors in the 4-0 win over the visiting Chiefs.
Kozun was the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending Jan. 19 when he went 3-0-0-0 in three games with two shutouts.
Kozun, a 19-year-old from Nipawin, Saskatchewan, is playing in his second full WHL season and was recently acquired by the Thunderbirds from the Kamloops Blazers. Since joining the Thunderbirds, Kozun has posted a 9-2-0-0 record including four shutouts in 11 games played with a goals-against-average of 1.51 and save percentage of .952.
T-Birds return to action Friday
Seattle (35-17-2-3) has won 13 of their last 16 games and faces the Tri-City Americans at 7:35 p.m. Friday at the ShoWare Center. They travel to Everett to play the Silvertips at Comcast Arena at 7:05 p.m. Saturday. They host the Prince George Cougars at 5:05 p.m. Sunday.
Tickets are available online at the T-Birds website and at the ShoWare Center box office. The ShoWare Center Box Office is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday game days at 10 a.m. and Sunday game days at noon.
