Marcel Noebels scored the shootout winner Friday night at ShoWare Center to lead the Seattle Thunderbirds to a 3-2 shootout victory over the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

The game was tied 2-2 after 60 minutes to send the game to a shootout.

Burke Gallimore shot first for the T-Birds in the shootout. He broke into the zone on the right side and fired a snap shot from the slot that hit Anderson’s glove and trickled into the back of the net.

Cam Braes had Lethbridge’s first opportunity, but did not get a shot off as Seattle goalie Calvin Pickard managed to poke the puck away before Braes could finish his deke.

Noebels shot second for Seattle and came straight down the middle on Anderson. He made a quick move and slid the puck through Anderson’s five-hole to give the T-Birds a 2-0 lead in the shootout.

Mitch Maxwell had Lethbridge’s second chance, but Pickard came up big again and made a right pad save to give Seattle the win in the shootout.

Seattle (2-2-0-0) opened the scoring at 1:37 of the third period on Travis Toomey’s first goal as a T-Bird. Toomey grabbed a loose puck in the Lethbridge neutral zone and came in alone on Hurricanes’ goalie Brandon Anderson. Toomey beat Anderson over the glove with a quick snap shot.

Noebels put the T-Birds in front 2-0 at 13:40 of the third with an unassisted goal. Noebels carried the puck out of the right corner, curled through the right circle and snapped a shot past Anderson that dinged off the left post.

Lethbridge (2-0-0-1) cut Seattle’s lead to a single goal at 17:17 of the third period on Jacob Berglund’s second goal of the season. In a four-on-four situation Lethbridge pulled their goalie for an extra attacker and it paid off. Philip Tot and Brennan Yadlowski were credited with the assists.

The Hurricanes tied the game with 1:31 remaining in the third on Tot’s first goal of the season. Landon Oslanski and Yadlowski assisted on the goal that also came with the goalie pulled.

The T-Birds held the lead in shots after three periods, 34-31.

Seattle outshot Lethbridge 3-0 during the scoreless overtime period, giving them a 37-31 overall advantage.

Pickard (2-2-0-0) stopped 29 of the 31 shots he saw during regulation to earn the shootout victory.

Anderson (1-0-0-1) stopped 35 of the 37 shots he faced during regulation.

The T-Birds travel to Portland on Saturday to take on the Winterhawks at the Rose Garden at 7 p.m.
