The pieces of the puzzle are falling in place nicely for the Kentwood High girls soccer team.
Behind a pair of goals by Mykala Benjamin along with one each by Mariah Lee and Kiana Kraft, the fourth-ranked Conquerors turned back No. 5 Lewis & Clark Saturday afternoon 4-0 in a Class 4A state quarterfinal game.
First came the “scoop and score” for a touchdown off of a blocked field-goal attempt.
Then came the 88-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.
Behind big play after big play Friday night at French Field in Kent, No. 5 Bothell throttled fourth-ranked Kentwood 49-14 in a Class 4A state tournament opener.
Kentridge basketball star Gary Bell made it official Wednesday morning, signing a letter-of-intent to play next year at Gonzaga University. Bell announced his intentions to sign with the Bulldogs in April. He averaged 22.6 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game last year.

The Seattle Thunderbirds came back from a two-goal deficit in the third period Nov. 9 to beat the Saskatoon Blades 5-4 in a shootout at the Credit Union Centre in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
Luke Lockhart and Colin Jacobs each had a goal and two assists to help lead the Seattle Thunderbirds to a 5-2 victory over the Prince Albert Raiders Nov. 10 at the Art Hauser Centre in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.
Personal records proved to be the name of the game Saturday afternoon during the Class 4A state cross country meet at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco.
The Tahoma High girls, behind an entire roster of personal bests, brought home the area’s top overall finish, tying Eastlake for second with 110 points. Eisenhower managed to have just enough to win the team title, doing so with 110 points.
“We were right there,” said Tahoma coach Gary Conner. “It was amazing.”
There's something about this time of year that brings out the best in Reilly Retz.
In last year's Class 4A state soccer playoffs, it was Retz who scored game-winning goals in Kentwood High's final two wins of the season, which led to a school-best third-place finish.
Tuesday afternoon at Joe Albi Stadium in Spokane, Retz was up to her game-winning heroics once again.
The Kentwood High volleyball team split its matches at the West Central District 4A volleyball tournament last Friday and Saturday, but still managed to punch its ticket to a seventh straight Class 4A state berth.
The girls Class 4A state soccer tournament will have a distinctively South Puget Sound League North Division feel this season.
Especially from a local perspective.
Kentlake, Kentwood and Tahoma all earned berths to the tournament by winning their respective West Central District games on Saturday, Nov. 6.
The Moose Jaw Warriors defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 2-1 in a shootout Sunday night at the Civic Centre in Moose Jaw.
The game was tied 1-1 after 65 minutes of play to send the game to a shootout. Moose Jaw elected to shoot first in the shootout.
The Brandon Wheat Kings defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 3-2 Nov. 6 at Westman Place in Brandon, Manitoba.
This was the first game of a six-game road trip for the T-Birds. They faced the Moose Jaw Warriors Sundayl losing to them in a shootout.
The Kamloops Blazers defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 3-2 in overtime Saturday night at the Interior Savings Centre in Kamloops, British Columbia.
Seattle goalie Calvin Pickard stopped a season-high 49 shots. His record with the overtime loss is now 5-3-2-2.
