Seattle Thunderbirds goalie Calvin Pickard made 48 saves Nov. 19 at ShoWare Center to lead the T-Birds to a 2-1 shootout victory over the Spokane Chiefs.
Pickard arrived in Seattle on Friday afternoon from Prince George, British Columbia, where he was participating in the Subway Super Series Nov. 17 and 18.
Marcel Noebels and Burke Gallimore beat Chiefs goaltender James Reid in the best-of-three shootout, while Pickard stopped two of three Chiefs to give the T-Birds the victory.
After Luke Lockhart was stopped in the first round of the shootout, Noebels and Gallimore both put wrist shots over Reid’s glove to bring the 5,163 in attendance to their feet.
Pickard finished the game with 48 saves on 49 shots and Reid finished with 24 saves on 25 shots.
Just 53 seconds into the game Luke Lockhart beat Reid with a wrist shot past his glove side. Lockhart was assisted by Burke Gallimore and Brenden Dillon.
There were seven shots on goal for Seattle (10-4-3-3) in the first period and 21 for Spokane.
There was no scoring in the second period.
There were six shots on goal for Seattle in the second period and 11 for Spokane (10-8-1-1).
Spokane tied the game 1-1 at 3:45 of the third period on a power-play goal by Tyler Johnson. Jared Cowen and Brenden Kichton assisted on the goal.
In the third period there were eight shots on goal by Seattle and 14 by Spokane.
Seattle outshot Spokane 4-3 in overtime.
