Ben Woods threw three touchdown passes as Kent-Meridian defeated Battle Ground 43-28 in a season-opening, nonleague game Friday.
Woods connected on a 19-yard scoring play to Jade Gallman, a 10-yarder to Marc Dennis and a 48-yarder to Emmanuel Daigbe for the Royals.
Daigbe also capped the scoring by returning a fumble 75 yards for a touchdown.
Gallman added a 1-yard TD run, and David N’Guessa returned an interception 41 yards for another TD for K-M.
The Royals play Auburn (1-0) for the Taylor Trophy at 6 p.m. Saturday at French Field.
Elsewhere
At Bethel 29, Kentridge 10: Scott Moore returned an interception 88 yards for a TD for the Chargers in a nonleague loss Friday.
The Braves scored 22 points in the third quarter after trailing 10-0 at halftime.
At Kentwood 43, Curtis 0: Isaiah Williams ran for 70 yards and two TDs and Brian Campbell threw two TDs to Conner Benson as the Conquerors routed the Vikings.
Benson had four catches for 90 yards on the night.
Andrew Leick returned a fumble 33 yards for another touchdown.
At Graham-Kapowsin 35, Kentlake 0: Shannon Edwards ran for three TDs as the Eagles shut out the Falcons.
