An unusual dry spell continues for the King County Jaguars.

The Jags dropped their third straight North American Football League game on Saturday, falling to the Southern Oregon Renegades at French Field, 23-13. After winning two of its first three, King County is now 2-4.

Anthony Spain put Southern Oregon on the board in the second quarter with a 49-yard touchdown pass to Phil DuPont. But that 7-0 lead vanished right away, as Marcus Brooks returned the ensuing kickoff 87 yards to tie it, 7-7.

A safety and another Spain-to-Dumont TD pass gave the Renegades a 15-7 halftime lead.

Southern Oregon made it 23-7 in the third quarter on a 1-yard run by Nate Ellis. The Jaguars got back on the board in the fourth when Vernon Word scored on a 4-yard run.

Word led the Jaguars with 42 yards on seven carries.

Villwock’s hydro win official

Dave Villwock gets to keep his Seafair Chevrolet Cup hydroplane trophy.

Villwock, who actually finished second in the championship heat on Lake Washington on Aug. 3, became the winner in his U-1 Miss Ellstrom Elam Plus when the U-37 Miss Beacon Plumbing was assessed a one-minute penalty for being “off plane” – essentially, going too slow – prior to the start.

The Beacon filed a protest, but it was denied Aug. 12. The call by referee Mike Noonan was deemed to be a judgment call, and therefore stood.
