The Tri-City Americans scored five unanswered goals in the third period Saturday night to defeat the Seattle Thunderbirds 5-3 at the ShoWare Center.
Seattle (13-17-0-1) took a 1-0 lead at 4:25 of the first period. Tyler Alos was up against the boards and backhanded the puck to Luke Lockhart in the slot. Lockhart skated in and snuck the puck past Tri-City goalie Ty Rimmer’s right skate for his seventh goal of the season.
Sean Aschim scored at 7:24 of the first giving the T-Birds a 2-0 lead over the Americans. Branden Troock took a shot from the slot that deflected off of Rimmer’s left pad. Aschim got the rebound to the right of Rimmer and jammed the puck through the goalie’s legs to score his ninth goal of the season. Braeden Laroque also had the assist on the goal.
Tri-City (27-7-0-0) outshot Seattle 12-9 in the first period.
The T-Birds scored their third goal of the night at 15:19 of the second period. Brad Deagle sent the puck off the boards to Burke Gallimore. Gallimore carried the puck over the blue line and crossed it at right face off dot to Colin Jacobs, who was waiting in the slot. Jacobs one-timed Gallimore’s pass over Rimmer’s blocker for his second goal of the season.
The Americans led the T-Birds in 25-15 in shots after two periods of play.
Tri-City scored four goals in the first seven minutes of the third period.
The first goal at 34 seconds into the period was scored by Justin Feser. Zachary Yuen and Mason Wilgosh had the assists.
At 2:29, Patrick Holland scored the Americans second goal of the night. Wilgosh and Brendan Shinnimin are credited with the assists.
Holland scored his second goal of the night for Tri-City to tie 3-3 at 4:13. Feser had the assist on the goal.
Feser scored his second goal of the night giving the Americans the 4-3 lead at 6:21. Holland and Wilgosh had the assists on Feser’s 17th goal of the season.
Tri-City took a two-goal lead at 18:02 of the third with a goal from Wilgosh. Messier and Feser had the assists.
The Americans outshot the T-Birds 43-28 after three periods.
Seattle goalie Calvin Pickard made 38 saves on 43 shots and is credited with the loss bringing his record to 13-14-0-1.
Rimmer made 25 saves on 28 shots increasing his record to 15-4-0-0.
Seattle plays the Everett Silvertips in a home-and-home series Tuesday, December 27, at the ShoWare Center in Kent and Wednesday, December 28, at the Comcast Arena in Everett; both games are at 7:05 p.m. The T-Birds return home to the ShoWare Center to face the Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday, December 30 at 7:35 p.m.
T-Birds single game tickets for the 2011-12 season are available online at the T-Birds website and at the ShoWare Center box office. The ShoWare Center Box Office is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday game days at 10 a.m. and Sunday game days at noon.
