The Tri-City Americans defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 4-2 at the ShoWare Center in Kent on Friday night.
The T-Birds travel to Portland to take on the Winterhawks at 7pm at the Rose Garden on Saturday night.
Jared Hauf scored his first career WHL goal to give the T-Birds the 1-0 lead at 15:08 of the first period. Sean Aschim sent the puck from the left corner to Hauf at the left point. Hauf put a wrist shot on goal with traffic in front of Tri-City goalie Ty Rimmer. Hauf’s shot beat Rimmer low on the blocker side.
Tri-City (20-7-0-0) led the T-Birds in shots on goal, 14-13, at the end of the first period.
Adam Hughesman scored for the Americans on a power-play to tie it 1-1 at 15:54 of the second. Justin Feser and Brendan Shinnimin had the assists.
Tri-City led Seattle in shots 27-18 after two periods of play.
The Americans went in front 2-1 at 4:52 of the third period on a goal from Shinnimin. Patrick Holland had the only assist.
Less than a minute later, Seattle (11-13-0-1) answered Tri-City’s goal with a power-play goal. Kyle Verdino made a quick pass, at the blue line, towards Aschim, who was waiting to the left of the crease. Aschim redirected Verdino’s pass up and over Rimmer at 5:51 of third to tie the game 2-2. Braeden Laroque had the second assist on the goal.
Tri-City scored a power-play goal 38 seconds later at 6:29 of the third. Holland scored assisted by Hughesman and Feser to put the Americans in front 3-2.
Feser scored an empty-net goal just before final buzzer at 19:59 of the third to get the Americans fourth goal of the night.
Tri-City finished the game with a 39-25 advantage in shots.
Seattle goalie Calvin Pickard stopped 35 on 38 shots and is credited with the loss bringing his record to 11-10-0-1.
Rimmer made 23 saves on 25 shots bringing his record to 12-4-0-0.
The T-Birds return home next weekend to the ShoWare Center in Kent to face the Prince George Cougars on Friday, December 9, at 7:35 p.m. and the Victoria Royals on Saturday, December 10, at 7:05 p.m.
T-Birds single game tickets for the 2011-12 season are available online at the T-Birds website and at the ShoWare Center box office. The ShoWare Center Box Office is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday game days at 10 a.m. and Sunday game days at noon.
