It took a few weeks, but the King County Jaguars finally started to come together Saturday night at French Field.
Behind a pair of touchdown passes from Micah Prescott and a third from Kent-Meridian product Evan Cochran, the Jaguars turned back the Snohomish County Thunder 39-12 in a North American League football game.
“It was good to see the team come together and actually play,” said coach Mike Astley. “They looked like a unit for the first time this year, which is a good thing. The win is a big one for the team. Now the question is, can this group of young men take this as a confidence builder? I hope so.”
The Thunder took a 6-0 lead in the first quarter before the Jags erupted for three scores to take a 17-6 lead into halftime. The Thunder got within five points at 17-12 early in the third quarter before King County shut the door by ending the game by posting 22 unanswered points.
It’s the first win of the season for the Jags (1-1). More importantly, however, the offense finally began to click. The Jaguars came into the game having been outscored 56-13 in its previous two games, including a 29-0 loss to Grays Harbor in a preseason showdown.
Snohomish County simply couldn’t stop the Jaguars’ vaunted rushing attack, which racked up 264 yards of offense. Richard Stuart led the ground game, going for 117 yards on 11 carries.
Garret Cayson also enjoyed a strong game for King County, pulling in one touchdown reception and recovering a Thunder fumble for another score.
In addition, Cochran wasn’t the only K-M product to deliver as Jacob Foyston, another former Royal, added a touchdown of his own.
“All of a sudden, it just started clicking,” Astley said.
