The Tacoma Stars return home from an extended stretch of road contests to host the Ontario Fury on Saturday in a Major Arena Soccer League match at the ShoWare Center.
The Stars, 4-1 on the season, will aim to keep their perfect, 2-0 home record intact after defeating Soles De Sonora on opening night and Ontario in mid-November. Saturday’s match will mark the second game in a three-match season series against the Fury (2-2).
Prior to the match, the Stars and the ShoWare Center will host a viewing party for the Seattle Sounders appearance in the MLS Cup. Doors open at 4:30 p.m., and the event will open to all ticket holders for the Stars match.
Coach and general manager Darren Sawatzky looks to get the Stars back in the win column after the club dropped a pair of road matches against the San Diego Sockers and Atletico Baja last weekend. Goalkeeper Danny Waltman logged a total of 31 saves in those contests, bringing his season total up to 86.
Forward Dan Antoniuk and midfielder Micheal Ramos are tied for the Stars team lead with 10 points – they have both posted five goals and five assists this year.
Ontario – trailing the second-place Stars in the MASL Pacific Division by a half-game – is led offensively by midfielder Mauricio Salles, who was notched nine points on five goals and four assists. Fury goalkeeper Joey Kapinos has allowed an average of 7.08 goals per game this season, while posting a .650 save percentage.
The Stars out-scored the Fury 6-2 in the second half of the two club’s last meeting on Nov. 12 to pull away for an 8-5 comeback victory. Ramos and midfielder Derek Johnson both earned braces in that match while combining for five points.
Live stats for the match can be found at maslsoccer.com, while a live online stream will be available through MASLtv. First kick is tentatively scheduled for 7:35 p.m.
