San Diego bounced Tacoma from the MASL Ron Newman Cup playoffs, surviving a tiebreaker to capture the Pacific Division championship series at the Valley View Casino Center on Saturday.
The Sockers will meet the Monterrey Flash in the Western Conference final this Sunday. The winner takes on either Milwaukee or Baltimore from the Eastern Conference in the Cup final.
To advance, the Sockers needed to defeated the Stars twice. After losing the first game in Tacoma 5-2 last Thursday, the Sockers won Game 2 by pulling away in the fourth period to win 9-3 and force a 15-minute mini-game tiebreaker. San Diego struck early and often to build a 5-0 lead and ended Tacoma’s season with a 6-2 victory.
