Seattle Thunderbirds general manager Russ Farwell today announced the team has acquired defenseman Jesse Forsberg and a fifth- and seventh-round selection in the 2013 Bantam Draft from the Prince George Cougars in exchange for center Colin Jacobs.
“We are very happy we could add Jesse to our team for this year,” Farwell said. “He is an experienced WHL defenseman and a proven leader. He is exactly what we need to allow our young defense to develop.
“We were able to accommodate Colin’s request to get a fresh start on a new team while also filling a roster need.”
Forsberg, a 19-year-old, from Waldheim, Saskatchewan, played in 58 games with the Cougars last season. He had 13 points on six goals and seven assists with 132 penalty minutes. Forsberg has played 170 games with the Cougars over four seasons registering 9 goals and 36 assists for 45 points with 379 penalty minutes.
Last season Jacobs had 19 points on nine goals and 10 assists in 44 games. In three seasons with the T-Birds Jacobs has appeared in 186 games and had 44 goals and 45 assists for 89 points.
Jacobs was selected by the Buffalo Sabres in the fourth round, 107th overall, of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. He was a fourth round selection, 68th overall, in the 2008 WHL Bantam Draft by the T-Birds.
T-Birds season tickets are on sale. They can be purchased by calling the T-Birds’ office at 253-239-7825.
