The Seattle Thunderbirds has acquired left wing Jaimen Yakubowski and right wing Sam Mckechnie from the Lethbridge Hurricanes in exchange for left wing Riley Sheen, left wing Carter Folk and a third-round selection in the 2015 Bantam Draft.
“So far this season we have shown potential to be a contender in the league, but it is a very competitive division and we felt the experience and scoring these two bring will give us the depth to fully round out our lineup,” general manager Russ Farwell said. “We are a tougher team to play against today with this trade and we are excited about what these two players add to our team.”
Yakubowski, a 19-year-old, has played 11 games this season and has one goal. Last season Yakubowski had 32 goals and 18 assists for 50 points with 126 penalty minutes in 66 games. In 145 career WHL games over three seasons Yakubowski has 49 goals and 30 assists for 79 points with 258 penalty minutes.
Mckechnie, a 19-year old, has appeared in nine games with the Hurricanes this season and has one goal and two assist for three points. Last season Mckechnie had 26 goals and 18 assists for 43 points with 44 penalty minutes in 72 games. In 153 career games in the WHL over three seasons Mckechnie has 40 goals and 36 assists for 76 points with 103 penalty minutes.
Sheen was in his second season with the T-Bird and has three goals and five assists for eight points. Last year Sheen had 40 points on 13 goals and 27 assists. Sheen was originally acquired from the Medicine Hat Tigers for right wing Jacob Doty on May 9, 2012.
Folk was in his first season with the T-Bird and has not registered a point in seven games. He was originally a fourth round selection, 84th overall, in the 2011 Bantam Draft by the T-Birds.
The T-Birds play the Tri-City Americans at 7:05 p.m. Friday at the Toyota Center in Kennewick. They return home on Saturday to face the Vancouver Giants at the ShoWare Center at 7:05 p.m.
The T-Birds take on the Brandon Wheat Kings at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday at the ShoWare Center. This is the first 2-for-Tuesday game of the season for the T-Birds. All tickets to this game are two-for-one and concession specials include $2 beer, $2 soda, $2 hot dogs and $2 popcorn.

The ShoWare Center Box Office is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday game days at 10 a.m. and Sunday game days at noon.
