The Seattle Thunderbirds have signed defenseman Tyson Terretta, a sixth-round selection in the 2015 Bantam Draft.
“Tyson had a great summer and came to camp and pushed his way into contention to play this season,” said general manager Russ Farwell. “At 16 years old, he is an excellent prospect and we look forward to watching him develop.”
Terretta, from High River, Alberta, played the 2015-16 season with the Rockyview Raiders Midget AAA team in the Alberta Minor Midget Hockey League. Terretta appeared in 37 games and had one goal and 20 assists for 21 points with 76 penalty minutes.
Thr T-Birds selected Terretta 147th overall in the draft. Terretta is the fifth member of the team’s the draft class to sign with the T-Birds, joining Elijah Brown, Carl Stankowski, Connor Pyne and Dillon Hamaliuk.
By signing a WHL Standard Player Agreement, Terretta is guaranteed a WHL scholarship for every year he plays in the league. A player is able to attend any career enhancing institution of his choice, including universities, colleges, technical institutes and trade schools.
For each season played in the WHL, a player receives a one-year post-secondary scholarship, which includes tuition, compulsory fees and required textbooks.
