The Seattle Thunderbirds are pleased to announce defenseman Thomas Hickey has been selected to play for Team Canada at the 2009 World Junior Championships in Ottawa, Ontario, from Dec. 26 to Jan. 5.
Hickey, selected by the Los Angeles Kings with the fourth overall pick in the 2007 NHL Draft, won a gold medal with Team Canada at the 2008 World Junior Championship in Pardubice and Liberec, Czech Republic.
Hickey has appeared in 26 games with the T-Birds this season and has six goals and 12 assists for 18 point with a plus/minus rating of plus-13.
Hickey is one of 12 players from the WHL named to the 22-man roster for Team Canada.
The T-Birds next game is Dec. 27 against the Portland Winter Hawks at Seattle’s KeyArena. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
Single game tickets for the T-Birds first game at their new home, the ShoWare Center, on Saturday, January 3, against the Everett Silvertips are currently on sale. Single game tickets can only be purchased on the T- Birds website by clicking on the Single Game Tickets link in the Tickets menu.
