The Medicine Hat Tigers defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 5-4 Tuesday night at ShoWare Center.
Colton Grant scored at 4:20 of the first period to put the Tigers in front 1-0. Sean Ringrose and Tristan King had the assists.
Ringrose scored a power-play goal at 19:17 of the first to give Medicine Hat a 2-0 lead. Jace Coyle and Travis Dunstall had the assists.
Bretton Cameron scored at 19:35 of the first to make it a 3-0 Tigers lead. Tyler Ennis had an assist on the goal.
Medicine Hat (28-17-3-3) outshot Seattle 15-9 in the first period.
Seattle (21-24-1-3) got on the board at 4:20 of the second period when Jeremy Boyer scored an unassisted goal. Boyer got to a loose puck behind the Tigers goal and scored on a wraparound at the right post. He snuck the puck between the legs of Medicine Hat goalie Ryan Holfeld for his 13th goal of the year.
The T-Birds cut the lead to one goal when Thomas Hickey scored a power-play goal at 12:19 of the second. Devon LeBlanc sent the puck from the left boards to Hickey at the left point. Hickey crossed the puck along the blue line to Stefan Warg at the right point. Warg skated to his right and then sent the puck back to Hickey, who had moved to center ice. Hickey one-timed Warg’s pass with a screen in front of Holfeld. Hickey’s shot beat Holfeld low for his 10th goal of the year.
The T-Birds outshot the Tigers 14-1 in the second period and led 23-16 in total shots after two periods.
Ennis scored an unassisted shorthanded goal at 5:04 of the third period to give the Tigers a two-goal lead back.
Ennis scored a second goal of the game at 7:16 of the third on assists from Linden Vey and Bo Montgomery.
Sena Acolatse scored a power-play goal at 9:44 of the third to cut the Tigers lead to two goals. Prab Rai fed the puck to Acolatse in the right circle. Acolatse beat Holfeld with a slap shot over the glove for his fourth goal of the year. Hickey had the second assist on the goal.
The T-Birds crept to within one at 14:43 of the third on a goal from Luke Lockhart. LeBlanc and Chris Cloud had assists on Lockhart’s fourth goal of the year.
Seattle outshot Medicine Hat 13-5 in the third period and 36-21 in the game.
Seattle goalie Jacob DeSerres made 16 saves on 21 shots and his record is now 10-16-0-0.
Holfeld stopped 32 of 36 shots and his record is now 22-14-3-2.
The T-Birds travel to Kamloops to take on the Blazers Wednesday at 7 p.m. They are in Everett to face the Silvertips at 7:35 p.m. on Friday before they are back home at ShoWare Center on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. when they face the Kelowna Rockets.
