The Tri-City Americans defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 5-2 Friday night at the ShoWare Center in Kent.
Seattle (20-35-1-1) faces the Portland Winterhawks Saturday at the Memorial Coliseum in Portland at 3pm. The T-Birds are back home at ShoWare Center on Sunday at 5:05pm to take on the Spokane Chiefs.
Tri-City (39-15-1-2) got on the board at 9:41 of the first period on a goal by Adam Hughesman. Patrick Holland and Brendan Shinnimin had the assists.
Tri-City went ahead 2-0 at 19:22 of the first on a goal by Connor Rankin. The goal was assisted by Marcus Messier and Justin Feser.
Tri-City outshot Seattle 23-14 in the first period.
At 19:48 of the second, Tri-City made it 3-0 on a goal by Rankin. Hughesman had the only assist.
The Americans led 45-24 in shots after two periods.
Tri-City got their fourth goal at 4:02 of the third when Shinnimin scored an unassisted goal.
At 13:42 of the third, The T-Birds got on the board on a goal by Connor Honey. Branden Troock sent the puck to Honey at the top of the right circle. Honey brought the puck around the net to the left side of Tri-City Zone and slapped it towards the goal. The puck deflected off of a Tri-City defender and past Americans goalie Eric Comrie and into the net.
Honey scored a second goal at 15:24 of the third to cut Tri-City lead to 4-2. Shea Theodore brought the puck over the blue line on the right side and stopped. He then centered it to Troock. Troock sent it to Honey right above the goal line and Honey controlled the puck, and then backhanded it through Comrie’s legs into the net.
Tri-City made it 5-2 at 19:44 of the third on an empty-net goal by Shinnimin. Patrick Holland had the assist.
Tri-City outshot Seattle 53-38 in the game.
Calvin Pickard made 48 saves on 52 shots, and his record is now 20-30-1-1.
Comrie saved 36 of 38 shots to make his record 17-5-1-1.
T-Birds single game tickets for the 2011-12 season are available online at the T-Birds website and at the ShoWare Center box office. The ShoWare Center Box Office is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday game days at 10 a.m. and Sunday game days at noon.
